This is my official mock draft and I'm gonna call it the "what should happen draft." I hate to sound cocky but I think this is how the draft would play out in the best case senario. Every player taken fits a team need and also the teams system. Thats why you'll notice a few names left out.
.STL- Sam Bradford, QB-OKLA= I just can't see the Rams not taking this pick. I think Clausen will be better for the first couple years because seems more NFL ready because of his college system.
.DET- Russell Okung, T-OKST= Alot of people see Suh coming off the board here but when you make the type of investment the Lions did in Stafford, a good LT is the best way to protect it.
.TB- Ndamakong Suh, DT-NEB= I think the Bucs have to take the best player on the board here. No disrespect to Eric Berry but Suh may be that guy for the bucs.
.WAS- Trent Williams, T-OKLA= I can really see Eric Berry going here too but with a former high pick at safety in Laron Landry already in town and the recent trade for McNabb, I thing the Skins will go for a LT and Bulaga may be cleaner but Trent Williams has the athletism needed to face guys like Damarcus Ware.
.KC- Brian Bulaga, T-IOWA= Again I could see Berry here but Kansas City needs a better line and I keep reading that Brandon Albert the current left tackle may be better at his drafted position of RG.
.SEA- Gerald McCoy, DT-OKLA= I think Seattle will go with the best player on the board after watching McCoy fall due to other teams simply not needing him.
.CLE- Jimmy Clausen, QB-ND= After Clausen's pro day I think he will go to the first team that needs a quarterback and hasn't already put a serious investment into anyone else. With the teams current QB's being Delhomme and Senaca Wallace, that team is Cleveland.
.OAK- Taylor Mays, S-USC= Al Davis loves big strong players and Taylor Mays fits the description of an Al Davis shocker pic.
.BUF- C.J Spiller, RB-CLEM= Reports are heating up that Marshawn Lynch doesn't have long and playmakers are needed on this roster. Buffalo will have to consider taking the home run hitter. For the third time I could see this also being Eric Berry.
.JAX- Eric Berry, S-TEN= Eric Berry's slide will end with Jacksonville. The Jags can't take another miss on a DE so I think their best move is to take advantage of the slide of one of the draft's top players.
.DEN- Rolando McClain, ILB-ALA= Mike Nolan made the Broncos defense alot better but they did see a big lapse in play during the latter parts of the season. I think they'll take the best player on the board that also happens to fit the need for more defense.
.MIA- Dan Williams, DT-TEX= The Dolphins have a few oldie but goodies in their middle along with a few young improvements. I thing Parcells will take a big body that can clog up the middle. If Williams has a problem playing the nose in the 3-4 the team could always try him at the 5 technique where he can use his strong lower body to set the edge against the run.
.SF- Joe Haden, CB-FLA= With this pick the 49ers can get a guy to pair with Nate Clements and improve on the weak link of their defense which is the secondary.
.SEA- Everson Griffen, DE-USC= I have to believe Pete Carroll will push for his former player. He's a high motor guy, an athletic beast, and who knows how to use him better than the guy who coached him in college.
.NYG- Derrick Morgan, DE-GT= I know they have Justin Tuck, Osi, and Kewanuka but with the exception of Tuck, Tom Coughlin seemed pretty underwhelmed with the play of his ends in 09.
.TEN- Earl Thomas, S-TEX= The Titans have two safeties in Michael Griffin and Cris Hope that racked up alot of pics in 08 but didn't do so good last year. However, I'm not saying they'll move either of the two out of the lineup for Earl but the talk is that this guy could play corner too. That spells value for the Titans if they can line him at left corner, nickel or safety if somebody isn't pulling their weight.
.SF- Charles Brown, T-USC= I think the 49ers thinking with two first round pics has to be lets get a guy to improve our secondary and a guy to protect our Alex Smith and in my mock draft they complete that mission.
.PIT- Maurkice Pouncey, C-FLA= I think the Steelers go with the best player on the board here and to get the best center prospect in the draft outside of the top fifteen is smart for your team and economical for the front office.
.ATL- Jason Pierre-Paul, DE-USF= With Earl Thomas gone and with DE being a big need I thing the Falcons will go with the best DE left on the board. I think this would be a need pick and I also don't like project players going in the first round, but I can see the Falcons making this pick because they can let Paul sit on the bench and watch John Abraham which would be good. Pierre-Paul seems like the type of guy who could be a bust if he's rushed on the field.
.HOU- Kyle Wilson, CB-BSU= If the Texans didn't make this pick after losing Dunta Robinson I would be shocked.
.CIN- Brandon Graham, DE-MICH= People have Jermaine Gresham going here which I could see but the reason I have beef with that very popular pick is the fact that the Bengals just don't use the tight end that much in their offense. They've never made it a point to add one through the draft or free agency and I think it's for a reason.
.NE- Jared Odrick, DT-PSU= The Patriots were soft on defense last year and every time I hear people talk about Odrick he sound like a Belichick guy and it doesn't hurt that he could fill a void left by Jarvis Green.
.GB- Mike Iupati, G-IDAHO= Ted Thompson like versatile players and there's talk that this guy can play anywhere along the line even though his best fit is guard or center.
.PHI- Sean Witherspoon, OLB-MIZZ= Philly just traded Chris Gocong to the Browns and adding a guy like Sean Witherspoon who looks like he could be the one of the safest linebacker pics in the draft would be an upgrade from Gocong.
.BAL- Dez Bryant, WR-OKST= As a fan, I don't know how I would feel if this did happen but as far as I know Dez is the only player to spend two days visiting Baltimore. I think that's a sign and I wouldn't be surprised if Ozzie's promise to upgrade the WRs sends him down this road along with the confidence that guys like Ray Lewis will keep Bryant focused.
.ARI- Jerry Hughes, OLB-TCU= After replacing the loss of Antrell Rolle with Kerry Rhodes I think the Cardinals fill the hole left by Betrand Berry by getting the first true 3-4 outside rush linebacker to ever play for them since switching to the defense last two years ago.
.DAL- Morgan Burnett, S-GT= Safety is the one hole on this defense. There's no one to play next to Gerald Sensabaugh so the Cowboys should be quick to grab one of the better ballhawking safeties available in the draft.
.SD- Terrance Cody, NT-ALA= Ryan Matthews is a popular pick here but I truly believe that in the last few years teams have shown that solid running backs can be found in rounds 2-3 and defense is the side of the ball that needs an upgrade. Plus longtime nose takle Jamal Williams is now with the Broncos.
.NYJ- Damaryius Thomas, WR-GT= The Jets were always hard to figure out and with Rex as the head coach that only got harder. Thomas just has too much size and speed to fall out of the first round. The Jets are a strong team and Braylon is way too incosistent so the Jets may be tempted to make pick 29 a luxury pick.
.MIN- Daryl Washington, OLB-TCU= This linebacker core is already strong but I think this guy could move starter Ben Leber to the bench and add speed and youth to this defense.
.IND- Brian Price, DT-PSU= The Colts get beat up in the middle less, but they still get beat up. Maybe Brian Price can change the fact that the middle of the defense line lacks a dominant presence.
.NO- Jahvid Best, RB-CAL= I think this guy would fit the Saints to a tee. Reggie is a bust. People don't like to say it and his inconsistent flashes of greatest are the only things that remind people of his greatness. It's time for that guy to stop living off the random 40 yard gains. Best has the moves and patience to take advantage of his break away speed. Paired with Pierre Thomas and Bush for the third downs (and only third downs) the Saints could retool the running game that lost Mike Bell.
